In my years as
business consultant, I had come across great leaders and many great people.
However, there are also many mediocre ones.
More often than not, these mediocre ones
made the most and loudest noise, and yet caused the most problems; worst, they blamed
others for their mistakes.
As what William Baldwin also stated: Empty
vessels make the loudest noise. I fully concurred with him on this.
Initially, I wanted to focus on the people
aspects and the Basis Of Singaporean Spirit (BOSS) for this book. However, it
will not help much because it is paramount that I clarify the misconception of
leadership first.
Most people thought that by assuming a
certain role (Prime Minister, President or CEO), one automatically becomes a
leader; well, nothing can be further from the truth than that.
One can assume the role of President, yet
producing results worse than what an average person on the street would
achieve.
Therefore, it is important for me to start
off with this Leadership section to provide some guidance on identifying those
mediocre ones.
